breastfeeding stories

We all have breastfeeding stories.

Our trials and triumphs.

Something funny our babies did while nursing.

A supporting or un supporting partner.

Even dads have their own breast feeding story!

I have plenty of stories for each one of those categories. For instance, my two year old used to nurse while sucking his thumb! Two of my babies played with the nipple on my other breast while nursing…..can you say irritating!

My husband was very unsupportive of me breastfeeding our kids in the beginning, now he’s telling his friends about how their kids’ moms should breastfeed!

My stories could go on and on, but I don’t want to talk about mine anymore.

I want to hear your story.

When you first started breastfeeding, didn’t it feel good to hear or read someone else’s story?

It kind of made you realize that your issue wasn’t so bad after all, or that you really could get through the pain and be pain free.

And don’t forget about the acrobatics your toddler does while nursing!

Have you ever gotten bit? I want to know about it! We want to know about it!

It’s your turn to tell your story. Encourage someone who is on the verge of giving up. Entertain someone by letting them know that it happened to you too.

You can always submit more than one story, because I know I have a ton of them for each one of my kids! And I'm sure you do too!

****From our breastfeeding stories gallery, here is a story that was submitted by one of our fellow breastfeeding mamas, Mara:

I was amazed how much the medical profession in my area is against breast feeding. My daughter's first pediatrician told me, and I quote, "If you must do that breast feeding crap, you can not do it past 6 months. After 6 months there is no nutrition in breast milk and you must switch to formula". This man is a pediatric gastroenterologist!

I had a nurse tell me in the hospital that because I was 43 when I had my daughter I was "too old" to breast feed and I would never produce milk.

I had a woman at church tell me I was disgusting for breast feeding my toddler and she should be on cow's milk, to which I replied "Why? Did you think she was a baby cow?"

The hospital I delivered at was very anti breast feeding and gave her a bottle right away and even kept her from me for almost 24 hours, so when I finally did get her she wouldn't latch.

We exclusively pumped for about 3 months while we worked on latching, and not only did I never have to supplement, I had over 600 bags of breast milk in my deep freezer. She didn't even start on whole milk until she was about 18 months, and at 2 years and 2 months every night before bed she still asks for "boobie".

****Here is a funny breastfeeding story submitted by one of our fellow breastfeeding mamas, Kelly:

Formula tastes bad, smells and makes for really stinky gas and diapers - and it stains clothes! I'm so thankful I didn't have to feed it to my children.

I'll go one (or even two) further and tell you that the milk from one side was very sweet and the milk from the other side was rather salty. Go figure!

AND my husband and I tried to make butter out of it once just to see if we could. It did work, but I prefer dairy butter. :)
